Netflix is testing a new way to limit code leaks, as revealed by Variety. The platform that all these years has been flexible in the matter of codes has entered the process of finding the right formula to reduce revenue loss.
Thus, with the test starting in Peru, Chile and Costa Rica, it will inform users who have shared their passwords via message that they will have to pay an extra charge, for each connection outside the home. That would be about $ 3 for each remote connection.
Whether this method will be extended to other countries is something that will be judged by the trial period in the three countries we mentioned.
What Netflix says about the extra charge
“We’ve always made it easy for people living together to share their Netflix account, with features like separate profiles and simultaneous views. While these options are extremely popular, they are also confusing when one can share one’s passwords.
“This is how the accounts are distributed to different homes, which affects our ability to invest in new programs for our members,” a company executive wrote in a Netflix blog.
At the same time, it will be possible to transfer profiles to a new account so as not to lose the viewing history. However, because the goal will be difficult to achieve to the extent that Netflix wants it, we see at some point adopting the statement of specific devices that will be able to monitor the content.
Netflix currently has 221 million subscribers worldwide, but the actual number of people accessing the service is, of course, much higher.
