If it was up to singer Cher, 75, Ukrainian families fleeing the war could take shelter in some of the homes she owns in the United States. That’s what she wrote on her Twitter this Friday (18).
“I would like to sponsor Ukrainian families in my house. They would be safe and cared for,” said the artist, who also asked more famous people to collaborate in the same way.
“Many people in my position need to speak up in this crisis. If I were alone or with my children and we were traumatized, I would expect someone like me to take care of us,” he said.
Last Thursday (17), it was Arnold Schwarzenegger, 74, who made an appeal for an end to the war in Ukraine in a video posted on his social media. He also sent a clear message to Russian President Vladimir Putin: “You started this war. You are leading this war. You can stop this war.”
The actor begins his account by referring to “dear Russian friends and Russian soldiers serving in Ukraine”. According to him, “there are things that are happening in the world that have been hidden from you, terrible things that you should know about.”
Subsequently, Schwarzenegger claims that the attacks are illegal and that more than 140 countries have already repudiated the acts. He also recalled that there is a refugee crisis that alarms the world today and that it harms thousands of people.
In addition to him, actors Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis managed to reach the goal of raising US$ 30 million (about R$ 152.2 million) to donate to refugees in Ukraine. On the morning of this Friday (18), the couple totaled US$ 34,432,700 (about R$ 174.7 million) on the page on the GoFundMe platform.
In the face of positive reaction from the endowment fund, the couple posted a new video claiming they were raising their fundraising goal to $40 million.
“While this is far from a solution to the problem, our collective effort will provide a smoother landing for so many people as they move forward into their uncertain future,” Kunis says during the video.
