With rocket, rain and to the sound of Carlos Gomes’s “O Guarani”, singer Carlinhos Brown kicked the opening of Salvador Carnival at the Osmar Circuit in Campo Grande.
Soon, singer Margareth Menezes, Minister of Culture, joined the singer Lazinho and sang the song “Pharaoh”, carnival anthem of Salvador, always accompanied in choir by the public with the greeting “ê, Pharaoh”.
Singing in front of the trio, on the asphalt, at the length of the revelers, in his walking box, Brown and his guests were accompanied by percussionists of Olodum and the beauty of the wings of the Afro blocks and afoxés of the children of Gandhy, Ilê Aiyê, Afro procession, Mazenza Malê, Muzenza and Pelô’s Commanche.
This year, the theme of Carnival is the 40th anniversary of Axé Music and what was seen at the opening was a collection of great hits of the genre.
“I’m thrilled, it’s a joy to be here with you,” said Daniela Mercury, another illustrious guest.
She sang her great success “The Corner of the City”, which won Brazil in 1992. “We took Axé to the world,” said Daniela, talking about the Afro blocks and remembering Neguinho do Samba (1954-2009).
Boos
But when Brown implied that he would call Claudia Leitte, the public began to boo, even before his name was announced. When she began to sing, the weather improved, and the audience was involved in Claudia Leitte’s performance, singing along with her, who ended up gone.
At the end of her participation, she asked for peace and said “music is what we do best.”
“The favela, respect who comes from there,” said Brown to introduce Márcio Victor, who entered the indirect Claudia Leitte. “Those who believe in God and orishas raise their hand,” said Márcio Victor, who performed shortly after the singer.
Recently, Claudia Leitte was widely criticized by adherents of African matrices for altering the lyrics of the song “Caranguejo”, changing the verse “greeting Queen Iemanjá” by “just praise my king Yeshua”. At the time, the singer was accused of religious intolerance.
“What a tasty trio is this? Live Carlinhos Brown,” said Márcio Victor. Together, the two greeted Ilê Aiyê, the first Afro block in Brazil.
Always raising the audience with a “who is happy raises his hand and gives a scream”, Carlinhos Brown was receiving guests, such as singer Gilmelândia and singer Ricardo Chaves, who sang the song “It’s the Bicho”, one of the great hits of Axé Music, with the animals “is the animal / I will devour, Crocodile I am”.
“This man left Brazil saying that a singer was possible to hold a trio,” Brown said about Chaves.
Then Felipe Pezzoni, current lead singer of the band Eva, and singer Serginho, former love host of love, sang another classic of Axé Music, the song “My Little Eva”. Another pioneer of axé, the singer Sarajane, made the audience remember “The Wheel”, with the verse “Let’s open the wheel, to manage”.
Padê
Shortly before running the official opening of Salvador Carnival, singer Carlinhos Brown made a ritual to make ways.
The ceremony was at Largo do Campo Grande, where is the Osmar Carnival circuit. Brown showered popcorn, put corn on the street and burned gunpowder. Called “Padê”, the ceremony is a tradition of African matrix religions.
The expectation of Salvador City Hall is that the city receives more than one million tourists and moves about R $ 1.8 billion during the carnival period.
