Preta Gil is thrilled at her father’s show and is supported by friends

A day after he was discharged from a Salvador hospital, where he was hospitalized to treat a urinary tract infection, Preta Gil watched the first show of the “Tempo Rei” tour, which marks Gilberto Gil’s farewell to the great performances, and was supported by friends during a “outbreak of emotion” in the singer’s own words.

“Seu Gilberto’s show was the most beautiful I’ve ever seen in my life,” he said. “I cried the whole show. I can’t explain it is.”

The emotion became even more intense when the father dedicated to her the song “Drão”, which is part of the album “Um Band” (1982) and was composed for Sandra Gadelha, Black’s mother, after the couple’s separation. Drão is the nickname of Gil’s ex-wife.

“What was already exciting, to end with me, he dedicated me ‘Drão’, a song that composed to my mother,” said Preta. The singer said she will “drag” Drão for her father’s show in Rio (March 29th and 30th and April 5 and 6, at Farmasi Arena).

In addition to Black, Gil had his children Pedro (killed in an accident in 1990, at the age of 19) and Mary in her third marriage. The lyrics talks about love that does not die, but transforms, from the bed of mat where they slept at the beginning of marriage and the fruits of this relationship. “Drão, the boys are all healthy,” says the song.

“Her creation presented high degrees of difficulty because she dealt with a dense subject – love and unloving, break, the end of a marriage,” said the singer in the book “All Letters”.

At this Saturday’s show (15), at Fonte Nova Arena, Preta was supported by Roberta Saretta, family doctor, makeup artist Soraya Rocha and dancer Lore Improta.

The singer was hospitalized between December and February at Syrian Lebanese, in São Paulo, after delicate surgery to remove tumors. Black was diagnosed with bowel cancer (also called colorectal cancer) in early 2023.
