Actress Amanda Bynes, 35, is officially free from the guardianship of her mother, Lynn Bynes, after nine years. According to the website TMZ, which had access to the documents of the process, she now has the power to make personal and financial decisions on her own.
The hearing that ended the guardianship took place a month after she filed the request in court with the support of her own mother.
Amanda’s attorney, David A. Esquibias, told the website that Amanda appreciates the love and support of her fans during this time and that she also thanks her family for never giving up. “Now that her conservatorship is over, she looks forward to completing her bachelor’s degree and living her life,” he says.
Since August 2013, Bynes’ mother Lynn has had temporary custody of her daughter after she allegedly burned down a garage and was hospitalized in a psychiatric prison. As a result, she has legal control over her daughter’s personal, medical and financial affairs.
In September of last year, a report on Bynes’ health was filed and approved by a California court with the next update scheduled for January 2023. Contrary to reports at the time, Esquibias explained that his guardianship “was not extended” until 2023
The actress published a post on Twitter in November 2014, saying she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, a month after a second hospitalization. In recent years, Bynes has been in and out of mental health facilities while battling drug addiction.
The actress announced in November 2018 that she had been sober for four years, but returned to treatment two months later, after what was reported as a “stress-related relapse”.
At the beginning of March, she had already made a video to thank the support after she asked for the termination of her mother’s guardianship after almost nine years.
“What’s up, Instagram? Amanda Bynes here”, he said in a video shared on Monday (7). “My trial date is coming up in two weeks. I want to thank you all for your love and support. Peace to you,” said the actress, who tagged some media in the caption.
Bynes became known for films such as “She’s the Man” (2006) and “Hairspray” (2007). Her last big screen role was in “The Lie” (2010), as Marianne.
