At the age of 15, Carol Diaz got her first job in a graphic. He spent four years there, circulating between different sectors. In dealing with clients in the publishing market, he observed demands that were, in his view, “simple things to solve.” He left the graphics at the age of 19 to found his own publisher, aiming at gaps from the market.
Now 39, Carol accumulates two decades of experience and has published over 1,200 books on disruptions. Among his famous customers are Sonia Abram, Daniela Albuquerque, Nego Di, Rodriguinho, Samara Felippo and Kika Sato, mother of Sabrina Sato. Entrepreneurs, lawyers, academics, psychologists and coaches complete the parish.
Graduated in design and specializing in the bookstore market, Carol confesses that she was not always intimate in the letters. To write the books, she has a team of up to eight journalists and ghostwriters, who work at the cashier. On average, a work takes six months to reach the author’s hands.
The time and amount of meetings vary according to the independence of each client. Sonia Abrão, for example, wrote the book itself. He sought Carol with the text ready. “In these cases, we only read, review, edit and layout. One meeting is enough to ‘crush’ the team,” he says. In less than two months, the owner of RedeTV afternoons! It had its autobiography published.
The process was similar to that of Nego Di, a former BBB and defendant for estelionato. In March, Nego Di launched the autobiography “Come back for $ IMA” for disruptions. He himself wrote the book during the eight months he was arrested.
For the publisher, controversial authors – if defendants in court or canceled in BBB – they are no problem, but solution. Before signing a contract with a new customer, she makes her risk analysis. “Everyone deserves to have a voice,” he says. Especially if the sales perspective is positive.
Gourmet service
Sambista Rodriguinho, also former BBB, published the work “Rodriguinho: Outside the box” less than 30 days after leaving reality. “It was a short, fast book, with the proposal to be launched in the heat of the ‘BBB’.”
For more complex works, the number of meetings can extend to five or six, with up to two hours each. “If the project is for a 60 -year -old businessman who will result in a 300 -page book, we can put there about eight months,” he estimates.
Many of these entrepreneurs have published two, three and even nine books with her. The secret of success, he reveals, is to smell them. “My service is gourmet. The authors speak directly to me, no one needs to talk to my team.”
Status on the shelf
Carol’s clientele in general is not made up of authors who live from the sale of their books. Much seeks to get status with publications. “The book brings a great intangible gain. If the author wants to be on social networks, become a speaker, a lecturer, the book positions him with more authority,” he says.
“Not everyone wants to sell. Many want to have the book available to nominate to people, go to a TV show, give a lecture at a university,” he adds.
With the proposal to “democratize and bureaucracy” the publication of books in more specific segments, she has just launched a seal called publish her work, aimed at authors who are out of her editorial profile. “It was the solution I found to make my clients happy. I print and deliver.”
Books with QR Code
In a world where you read less and less, Carol tries to circumvent what she considers obstacles to the fluidity of reading. It guides its customers, for example, to dry very long explanations in rehearsal works. The secret is to bring “dynamism,” he says. Each volume needs to be between 120 and 180 pages at most. “More than that, people won’t read.”
“I speak to my authors: ‘If you need to give a denser, academic, complex explanation, put a QR code.’ The person opens, watches a video, returns to the book. It is easier to digest reading,” he says. “What I want is for my authors to be read.”
