Presenter Dudu Camargo, 26, became a defendant for sexual harassment against singer Simony, 48. The complaint of the prosecutor of São Paulo was accepted last week and refers to an episode that occurred during the broadcast of RedeTV! Carnival Backstage program, during the parade of samba schools in the Anhembi sambodrom. At the time, Simony presented the attraction alongside Nelson Rubens.
Dudu Camargo, who was hired from SBT at the time, entered the broadcast of pajamas and started playing sex with sexual connotation. He said, for example, that he would like to go to the “Gugu bathtub” with Simony, alluding to the old painting Legal Sundaypresented by Gugu Liberato (1959–2019). He also stated that he wanted to “make a son” with the singer and even simulated a sexual act before the public.
The singer told the court that the presenter tried to grab her to force her to get a peck and held her intensely. Simony also said he asked Nelson Rubens to intervene, making his discomfort clear about the situation. “Take out of here! Get out of here! This Dudu is abused!” He reacted before the cameras. In a statement, he claimed that in his 40 years of career, “he never went through any similar situation” and had his “dignity attacked, being beaten and closed” on a national network.
According to UOL, if found guilty, Dudu Camargo may be sentenced to a penalty of one to five years of imprisonment, according to article 215-A of the Penal Code, which deals with the crime of sexual harassment. To date, there is no expected date for the trial.
In the defense presented to the court, Camargo stated that he “accidentally” touched the presenter’s skin and that he removed his hand immediately. His lawyer claimed that the program images demonstrate the “absence of malice” and that Simony would have consented to the peck. “There is nothing forced or obscene in the images, not even a trace of sexual intention,” he said.
In May 2023, the São Paulo Court had already determined that the presenter Dudu Camargo compensate the singer at $ 30,000 for moral damages. He filed a resource to reduce the value by 90%, but was denied in October last year.
