The Athens Epidaurus Festival presents an original artistic video entitled “Art is our language”, created on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Organization.

Against the backdrop of the five iconic venues of the Festival (Ancient Theater of Epidaurus, Herod Atticus Conservatory, 260 Piraeus, Small Theater of Ancient Epidaurus, Municipal Theater Arthur O’Sshaughnessy’s “Ode” (ODE), translated by Giorgos Koropoulis.

An ode to art, an ode to the seven decades of uninterrupted presence and contribution of the Festival to the country’s culture and to the future that comes, as the press release states.

The most famous work of English poet Arthur O’Sshaughnessy, “ODE (We Are The Music Makers)”, talks about the revolutionary power of art and has become a reference point for idealists and dreamers from its first publication in 1873. The role of art and imagination in shaping our world is perhaps more critical than ever.

Artists in “Ode” change the world, they become prophets singing the future. Because art is a force that shapes history.

Of music we have been the tolls,

every dream of dreams and perpetrators,

planets in lonely breakwaters,

deserted beside a deserted source; […]

of the world the discounts, the world the apostates,

illuminated by the moon or grass:

And yet in the world where we are passers -by

We always give movement and momentum. […]

Rejoice we address those who will bring

the ship from the brilliant and foreign beach;

Give us your sun, summer,

To feel our world again as it used to be.

With these lyrics reciting artists to the historical venues of the festival, this year’s multi -faceted program promises unforgettable moments of excitement in Athens and Epidaurus.
