A public health warning issued in New Jersey caused concern among Shakira fans who were present at his Metlife Stadium show in East Rutherford.

According to the American website Page Six, the State Department of Health confirmed that a person diagnosed with measles was at the scene during the presentation of the singer, held on May 15, and may have exposed thousands of people to the virus.

The stadium, which has a capacity of 82,000 people, received the Las Mujeres Ya tour stage in Lloran, and the presence of the infected occurred between 7:30 pm and 1 am. According to local authorities, the contaminated individual is resident of another state and had only the diagnosis confirmed after the event. The information was released through an official statement this week.

Also according to the site, the health department recommended that all people who were at the stadium at the indicated time will be alert about measles symptoms, such as high fever, cough, runnybird, reddish eyes and rashes.

The recommendation is that viewers remain attentive to at least June 6, an estimated period for the emergence of possible symptoms.

United States Disease Control and Prevention Centers (CDC) stress that measles is an extremely contagious disease that is easily transmitted through respiratory tract – coughing, sneezing or even speaking. The virus can remain in the air for up to two hours after the infected individual from the environment.

By 2025, more than 1,000 cases of the disease have been recorded in the United States, according to CDC data. In 96% of these occurrences, patients were not vaccinated or were unsure about their immunization history.

So far, no other case related to Shakira’s show has been confirmed, but the health warning serves as a preventive measure in the face of the possibility of large -scale contamination. The singer’s team has not spoken out about the case so far.

What is measles?

Measles is a viral disease that can cause serious complications such as intense diarrhea, ear infections, blindness, pneumonia and encephalitis (brain inflammation).

Some of these complications may be fatal. The transmission of the disease, caused by Morbillivirus, occurs through the air through respiratory droplets, which facilitates its spread, especially in low vaccination coverage environments.

VACCINATION

The triple viral vaccine, which prevents measles, mumps and rubella, is available free of charge at Basic Health Units (UBS) from all over Brazil. People from 12 months to 59 years may receive the immunizer. It is recommended two doses up to 29 years and a dose of 30 to 59 years, in non -vaccinated people. Those who do not remember if they took the vaccine in childhood can repeat the application.
