The Rockwave Festival meets – at last, as he himself confesses to the message he sends to the Greek public – Dionyssis Savvopoulos, the chronograph of our little and big times. The recorder of our modern collective history, the advocate of memory – no matter how much it may bother.

Dionysis Savvopoulos’ message

Dionysis Savvopoulos, the father and soul of the Greek lyrics and song, comes to expand the cycle of his musical journey with two historical appearances, at a festival – an institution that celebrates his own 30 -year journeys in 2025.

Two appearances, which will be filmed as a memorial for future generations on Saturday June 14th at Terra Vibe in Athens and Saturday 21 June at Terra Republic in Thessaloniki.

With “A Freedom of Zorikia”, in an inverter, from the city that highlighted him to the city that gave birth to him, he will celebrate World Music Day with us at the first Rockwave Festival of the North “for children with hair and black clothes” and for all of us,

A few words about Dionysis Savvopoulos

Dionysis Savvopoulos was born on December 2, 1944 in Thessaloniki, and since then he is surprised, familiar and public with his extreme sincerity and his unmistakable talent. The first signs of his unconventional personality were already seen when a young student, still, decided to leave the Law School to pursue his passion, music. Savvopoulos was already rock.

He began his appearances in 1964 writing bold songs with political, lyrical and historical content. At the same time, he participated in the claims of his generation and was present with the ’60s youth when he reacted vigorously against power, giving voice to oppressed emotions and expressing the concerns of an entire era. As Manos Hadjidakis had said to Lefteris Papadopoulos: “I consider Savvopoulos the most important representative of your generation who succeeded ours.” Savvopoulos was already the glittering star of Greek sixties.

Dionysis Savvopoulos established a new school in Greek songwriting

Dionysis Savvopoulos introduced a new school in Greek songwriting. With his pioneering, bold lyrics, his unexpected musical compositions, and his characteristic voice all sweet and roughness, like his intelligent and restless look, heinous and sharp as well as his views. His sound and his synthetic look, where the folk, “light” song and traditional music meet rock culture created a sound and style completely new. Dionysis Savvopoulos was already a revolutionary.

Dionysis Savvopoulos

That is precisely why, he could not be absent from the 30th birthday of the most rock and pioneering Greek festival, Rockwave. It has so much to tell and we want to hear it so much.

With him, the only bassist of the country, Yiotis Kourtsoglou, who has taken over the orchestrations, and the amazing Maximus Dragon on the keys, who has also orchestrated some of the songs to be heard. The drums will be Kallistratos Drakopoulos and a “barrier” of bronze winds. And three amazing voices, three young artists that each one already sets a special way: Klavdia, Alexandra Sieti and Sakis Dovolis.

With him Klavdia, Alexandra Sieti and Sakis Dovolis

Klavdia is one of the most important and authentic voices of the younger generation – a performer with a soul, depth and a distinctive stage aura. With the roots in the point and a look at the world, it was established with its collaborations in different musical fields and this year won 6th place at Eurovision with “Asteromata” and was loved by everyone.

Claudia

Alexandra Sieti is one of those voices that you can hardly forget. Starting with Soul but with a look that embraces Funk, Rock and Jazz, she goes on stage with the naturalness and power of a born performer. This year, she enters the world of Dionysis Savvopoulos to illuminate his songs with her own distinctive color.

Rock wave

Sakis Dovolis is a devoted bluesman with a rock heart – from those who carry the tension of the stage and the passion of the route on their voice and guitar. With over ten years of marching in the Greek and European Blues/Rock scene, it has set up its own sound, honest and electrified. At the Rockwave Festival, it brings the raw energy of a generation that knows how to play loudly.

Rockwave

Dionysis Savvopoulos proves his anxious youth by giving space and time to the younger generation, without insecurity but with the proud look of a general who sees his younger shoots continue his work.

In 1972 Dionysis Savvopoulos declared “I am a Greek playing”. Today, he says “old for rock”. Will deny himself. 2025 will be a Greek who will play rock at the Rockwave Festival.
