The Lucy Boynton we met her through her role as Mary Austin in the biographical film of Freddie Mercury and the Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody.
But surely, we learned a little more about her, when her co-star and partner Rami Malekat the time of receiving the Oscar, confirmed their relationship, saying that he has captured his heart.
So who exactly is the talented Lucy Boynton?
The 28-year-old actress, although born in New York, identifies herself more as England, as she grew up there and started her career, at the age of just 12, as Beatrix Potter in the film. Miss Potter. She later starred in several television series both in England and in her native America, however Bohemian Rhapsody was the film that turned her from a child starlet into a real star.
Now, Lucy Boynton stars in the mini-espionage series The Ipcress File, which is essentially the remake of the eponymous film of 1965, starring the legendary Sir Michael Caine. The plot of the series revolves around the Cold War, the brainwashing experiments, the espionage games and in general, the climate of suspicion of that time. Boynton plays a spy, Jean, who tries to balance work and family, which brings her to the point where she has to sacrifice something, leave something behind. In this case, the heroine abandons her fiancé and relinquishes the traditional role of wife – husband – housewife. Jean is a true revolutionary, a woman who dares to make her own decisions based on her own wants. It is a symbol of female independence and feminism.
And that’s exactly how Boynton treats her. As a woman, trying to impose herself in a male-dominated environment, the well-known actress frees her heroine from the emotions and sensibilities that characterize female nature, makes her inaccessible and irritates her. Essentially, as she reveals, she manages Jean, as if she were a man, and does so with such success that the feedback she gets confirms it. Boynton manages to convey the message of women’s emancipation and, more generally, to penetrate racial politics, not only through her role as Jean, but also as Marianne Faithfull, in her upcoming biopic.
However, Boynton did not completely erase the feminine side of her heroine. On the contrary, we would say that he strengthened her through a statement wardrobe, which included color, design and shape, dynamically combined, so that the young Jean does not resemble the standard spy of suits and boring colors.
Lucy Boynton and her battle with self-esteem
Undoubtedly, the young star is characterized by a mild British temperament. As she has said, she prefers to go unnoticed, in everything that has to do at least with her personal life and that is why she is not very active on social media. “It’s not at all difficult for me to withdraw. “I’m an introvert by nature and I just let my work speak for itself.”
Of course, the report on her relationship with her co-star Rami Malek does not help her much, but she manages to manage it, showing understanding herself, as a person who has the curiosity to know what the actors really are, that she herself admires. However, she wants to keep some things secret, so as to intrigue us with her work
Boynton, despite the freedom she had as a child, because she grew up in a creative and progressive environment, struggled with herself as she suffered from the anxiety of rejection and criticism. However, she managed to overcome it and heal her self-esteem, following the advice of Paul Maddox (her co-star in The Ipcress File), not to take anything personally, because in the end the criticism does not concern her as an individual.
And indeed, the young star did it.
Self-esteem has nothing to do with our successes and ego, but rather with our failures and mistakes. If you can break these two down and become a little more generous with yourself, then it’s really liberating. Boynton on the threshold of the new decade of her life, recognizes how carefree and chaotic the ΄20s are for the modern generation. The constant competition and demand from ourselves, to be who we need to be, to become who we need to be and to feel what we need to feel is really exhausting and stressful.
As she says, growing up is ultimately refreshing and stressful. Entering 30 you can finally be more calm and allow yourself to be calmer.
