Alekos Fassianos, although staying in Paris permanently, always returned to Kea’s beloved. The roots, the Greek images and the beauty of his special homeland made him come back again and again, and wherever he was, he carried her inside.

His camera where Greece exists came home and the studio of this great artist, who passed away on January 16, 2022. His images and designs still still give life and inspiration to a place that is so in need of such bright people.

Wherever he went, this great artist was always taking his notebook and pencils with him, and always painted with a frightening ease, as his wife Marisa Fassianou says. He didn’t care if the world sees him, nor did he want to create a closed atelier. He could even paint on the street, just to lose the idea. And since then, he returned to his studio, where he continued and perfected his work.

His mind was full of images and emotions, which he imprinted with special paper. It was not just painting for Pheasian art. They were the sculptures, the gardens, and in general the creations and the care of life around.

Alekos Fassianos while he was alive was unmoved, and did various activities for the island’s children, such as the Shadow Theater, with the distinctive figures he had crafted. Thus, he became the beloved not only of the locals but also of the visitors of the island, and everyone was eager for what he would do next.

This man was “overflowing” with art, which is why even in his home even the shortest corner, and the smallest object has a painting on him. Like the doors of the house, on which he designed various elements of nature, and the earthy colors are dominated everywhere. In general he was a mere man, and the austerity that characterized him is evident in the decoration of his home in Kea. There he went every summer to rest, inspire and fish.

Fassian was an anthropocentric painter, but he saw in the eyes of the people he depicted, heroes. He always paid attention to the detail, and always saw the potential that unfolded in front of him. He grabbed the paints and gave the objects another dimension, a second life. Today, those who enter his home and atelier in Kea, even if they didn’t know him earlier, are moved by his works and lifestyle, while behaving as if they were coming into a temple! He was a global artist, with an authentic Greek soul, who left behind a great cultural legacy.
