By completing six years of career, Majur, 29, agreed to do a one-month tour of cities in Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Spain, England and France, featuring songs from the recently released album “Gira Mundo”, with 16 tracks in Yoruba.
They are songs for the Candomblé orishas, their religion. “I believe they don’t understand the lyrics very well, but they feel the message in their hearts,” he says. “I’m in ecstasy,” celebrates the singer, who spoke by telephone to F5straight from Berlin.
Accompanied by band and dancers, Majur says he is surprised by the strangeness-and the enchantment-of the Europeans as he saw her on stage (she is 1.93 m tall). “I’m very tall, right? This helps, but I think they really love it is the head of straw that I use in the shows, which makes reference to African culture and also to Brazilian crafts. Anyway. The costume, the percussion, the image, the sound … Everything there is real.” Explains the Bahian singer.
Majur also realized the difference in how it is seen in Europe compared to Brazil. And they are many. For the artist, the people there (at least the audience of their shows) is more open to news. “They feel that I’m different – school, I’m different – but it’s a place of experience. They think, ‘I will find out what that is, I want to see and feel what it is.”
Another perception: “They do not have what Brazil has: criticism. They do not look and criticize. They look and want to know. They are curious, and I feel that it is an audience that I will have forever.”
For Majur, the European tour happens precisely in the month of pride LGBTQIA+ is also an achievement. “They have already underestimated me a lot, and being here was my merit. I am completely aware of how much I worked to get here, and it is very difficult to live in Brazil, live in music in Brazil and be a trans artist.”
She does not hide a certain disgust with the lack of incentive in the country in which she was born. “I’m sure some people could have done – and they can do it – much more for me. Okay, they chose not to do it. But I can’t stop. I’m no longer worried about what people will find about what I’m doing. I need to do what my heart is saying, “he concludes.
