‘Finally an Oscar worth seeing’, says UFC president of Will Smith slap

by

Will Smith became one of the most talked about subjects on social media after slapping Chris Rock on Sunday night (27), while the comedian presented the Oscar.

UFC president Dana White published a video at dawn this Monday (28) that showed the tense moment between the two artists, along with the comment: “Finally! There is an edition of the Oscars that is worth watching. And Chris Rock has a chin”.

On Twitter, American comedian Sal Vulcano asked boxer Jake Paul about how much he would pay for a fight between the two artists involved in the controversy, and Paul then replied: “I have $15 million for Will Smith and $15 million to Chris Rock. Ready to go. Let’s do it in August on my undercard.”

UNDERSTAND

During the Oscars ceremony on Sunday, actor Will Smith rose from his chair and hit comedian Chris Rock, who was on stage and had made a comment about Jada Pinkett Smith, wife of the protagonist of “King Richard”. Afterwards, Smith returned to his chair and yelled twice “get my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth”.

Rock had joked about the appearance of Will Smith’s wife, saying she looked like a character from “GI Jane 2”, who is bald. Jada Pinkett Smith suffers from alopecia, a genetic disease that leads to hair loss, and since 2018 has often spoken about it on social media.

The atmosphere at the ceremony was tense, as it was unclear whether Smith’s move was in jest or not. An awkward silence of several seconds followed and Rock looked shaken, although he continued to smile. “That’s a great live television moment,” he said.
