The participation of Arnold Schwarzenegger, 77, on a TV show aimed at promoting the second season of Netflix’s Fubar series, but turned into a tense moment with host Whoopi Goldberg, 69. The two starred in a live discussion about the issue of immigration in the United States.
Former California governor Schwarzenegger commented on recent protests against immigration when he was asked about his own experience as an immigrant-he was born in Austria. The actor began his report by claiming to be grateful for his life in the United States, but defended a legally -based policy. “You have to do things legally, and the people who are doing illegal things in the United States are foreigners,” he said.
He continued, “To me, when you come to the United States, you are a guest. And you have to behave as such.” Schwarzenegger still made an analogy: “When I go to someone’s house and I’m a guest, I do everything I can – I keep things clean, I get my bed, I do what is right. I don’t commit crimes or act abusively.”
Whoopi Goldberg, who participates in the bench of ABC’s The View program, countered the comments:
“Right, but Arnold, don’t forget: 90% of people who come here are trying to do the right thing.”
She continued: “The problem is that people are being expelled from the country even when they should not. People with all the documents in order. We want the right people here, not who does bad things.”
The lawyer and also host Sunny Hostin reinforced Goldberg’s argument: “Immigrants are much less likely to commit crimes in this country than citizens born in the United States.”
