Director Wolf Maya, 71, decided to open his heart about his sexuality and affections by recalling his personal and professional trajectory. Known for commanding memorable TV Globo productions such as “Women of Sand” (1993), “Lady of Rent” (1990), “Kubanacan” (2003) and “Senhora do Destiny” (2004), the artist is away from television and is currently dedicated to the formation of new talent at the school of actors he founded.
“I am more homosexual than homosexual,” Maya said Veja magazine, describing how she sees her affective life today. “I came to this conclusion a long time ago. I always valued the proximity, the affection, the affection. I had great friends and intense relationships. Sexuality, for me, has always been linked to creativity, exchange.”
Father of two daughters – Meria Maya, the result of her marriage to the director Cininha de Paula, and Manu Maya, from the relationship with producer Vânia de Brito – the director was comfortable when talking about his own intimate trajectory, including times when he could not fulfill the desire to be a father more often.
“I could have had four or five children. But at that time, I was very hopeless for the women I related. My loves ended up choosing not to move on with these pregnancies. I already took some three children who could be there alive, and I would love them.”
Wolf says his sexuality has ceased to be a conflict for a long time. “This relationship is resolved. I understand myself as a bisexual, but at the same time I think it should not even import. I think the human being is bisexual. But declaring it today is almost like signing a document about something that should be natural,” he explained.
About the label, he is disconcerting: “My sexuality doesn’t matter to others. I live very well with her. And most importantly: I’m happy.”
Even away from the cameras, Maya continues to follow the art scene and is dedicated to encouraging new generations of actors. In his school, known names of television have already passed.
