For the first time, Frida Kahlo comes to Greece to reveal to the public of Thessaloniki different times and faces from her life, aspects of the world’s staff and her hectic journey. All this through the photo exhibition “Frida Kahlo – Her Photos”, which will be presented at the Momus -Museum of Thessaloniki, from October 3, 2025 to January 4, 2026.

The exhibition, already presented in more than twenty cities internationally, includes 241 unpublished photographs of the internationally recognized artist from Mexico and one of the most mysterious and emblematic forms of Latin American art.

The photos come from her personal archive, which came to light in 2003, after about 50 years in the dark.

“Despite the importance of photography for Frida Kahlo, much of her photo collection remained hidden by the public for several decades. When she died, in 1954, her husband Diego Rivera donated their home – known as Casa Azul (Blue House), to Mexico City – to the Mexican people, to turn it into a museum for her life and work …. stays away from people’s weird eyes. This is the main reason why this personal archive, which included more than six thousand photos, some designs, letters, medicines and clothes, remained closed for five whole decades, locked in a bathroom at Casa Azul, acquiring an almost mythical aura.

A selected part of these newly acquired photos was transformed into the exhibition entitled “Frida Kahlo – Her Photos”, which is to be presented at the Momus -Museum of Photography of Thessaloniki.

“It is an exhibition that includes part of Frida Callo’s personal archive and Diego Rivera. And because this is not an unknown personality -each of us has some image in his mind, this report travels you in its history in a very personal way, “he says, speaking to the Athens/Macedonian News Agency, Momus President Epaminondas Christofilopoulos.

“Like we in our albums we keep the photos that emotionally connect us to faces and moments, so here you are experiencing this connection. You see the Frida child, with braids, as her father photographed her. Then, you see the photos taken by Diego Rivera herself with the women she was flirting with. And then, you feel her passion when she sees these images and takes scissors to engrave the faces of women, “Mr Christofilopoulos describes.

The president of Momus points out that it is pervasive to excite all those involved for this project. “There is something magical in this woman’s name. It is a figure of female empowerment, a man who fought to make his dream come true. I think no artist has a similar aura. With this report, we all experience a flush, “he says.
