Preta Gil’s death on Sunday (20) generated commotion in various sectors of society, including human rights movements and representatives. Toni Reis, president of the LGBTI+National Alliance, issued an official note of regret that highlights the legacy of love, courage and activism left by the singer.
“Preta was a great defender of LGBTI+rights, a person who fought with a lot of category, class and courage for a fairer, anti -racist and free society of Gordophobia,” he wrote. According to Toni, the artist leaves a huge void among those who lived with her, but also an example of resistance and empathy that goes beyond generations.
The note points out that the trajectory of Preta Gil was marked by firm positions and a strong affective presence in the lives of people who often were not represented. The publication also states that her work was not restricted to music: she was also active voice on social guidelines, facing prejudices and breaking stigmas with authenticity.
“May God, the orishas, or who you believe, welcome your essence with love, peace and light,” Toni wrote, ending the message with vows of comfort to family, friends and fans. “May the memory of Preta Gil inspire many generations to follow fighting for a more egalitarian and love -filled world.”
Diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2023, Preta faced public treatment, always with messages of strength and hope on social networks.
