From the Great Wall of China to the Taj Mahal, the UNESCO World Heritage List protects some of the most valuable, historical monuments of mankind. Now, the list is enriched with 26 new sites, which have been considered to meet their criteria.

This year’s additions include the authentic “Disney Castle” in Bavaria, the Minoan palaces of Crete, a “diamond mountain” in North Korea, a submerged “pirate city” in Jamaica and the fields of the death of the Khmer Reds.

The Palace – Castle of King Ludovic II of Bavaria, Neisvanstain, are one of the 26 attractions that joined the UNESCO World Heritage List this year. Built between 1864 and 1886 and inspired the castle in Disney’s movie “The Nice Sleeping”

The six extremely important archaeological sites of Crete, the Minoan palace centers in Knossos, Phaistos, Malia, Zakros, Zomomos and Kydonia – are now described as world heritage monuments.

Now, the UNESCO list includes 1,248 locations in 170 countries.

Two countries came to the list for the first time, Guinea-Bisau for the coastal and marine ecosystems of the Bijagós archipelago and Sierra Leone, for the Gola-Tiwai wildlife refuge.
