Family and friends pay tribute to Preta Gil in Seventh -day Mass in Rio

The seventh-day mass in memory of Preta Gil was held on the night of Monday (28), in the church of Santa Monica, in Leblon, in the south of Rio de Janeiro. Family members, close friends and fans of the singer gathered to pay the last honors to the artist, who died on Sunday (20). Preta received a diagnosis of colorectal cancer in January 2023 and treated the disease ever since.

Among those present were the father of the singer, Gilberto Gil, the stepmother Flora Gil, the granddaughter Flor Gil, besides José Gil and Francisco Gil, only son of Preta.

The ceremony was also attended by famous friends, such as Fernanda Montenegro, Maria Ribeiro, Carolina Dieckmann, Gloria Perez, Amora Mautner, Otávio Müller and Marcelo Serrado.

Black died at age 50 in New York, United States, where he sought treatment for his colorectal cancer. His body was repatriated at dawn on Thursday and, on Friday, his wake, at the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Theater, brought together hundreds of fans, as well as friends and family, at a ceremony that extended in the morning until afternoon.

At about 3 pm, the body was taken in procession to the Caju Cemetery by the Cariocas Megablocos Circuit, now baptized with the singer’s name, a tribute that celebrates its importance for Carnival, with the already traditional Black Block. The ceremony was eventually restricted to the public.
