One’s decision to leave alone is often accompanied by a strange look. The gaze that confuses loneliness with loneliness, silence with the absence, my “choice” with “no one wanted me with him”.

And yet, the solo traveler of 2025 is neither sad nor lost – It’s just free.

Holidays without friends are no longer “strange”. More and more people realize that this is an option. A little revolution in “Doing It All Together”, “Where are we going?”, “Let’s get to close”. It’s a ‘I’m leaving’ that no coordination is neededonly the mood to listen to yourself, a ticket, sunscreen and swimsuit.

Obviously in solo holidays it’s not all easy. There are moments of embarrassment. When you reach that tavern overlooking the harbor for example and ask for a table for one (and fall on that strange look again). When you are looking for a mobile socket on board and you do not have to leave the backpack.

But right there, in the pauses and the “little gaps”, happens the … good. You wake up whenever you want. You don’t talk about where you are going to swim, just go. You sit alone in coffee and instead of catching the cellphone you just look at the world that passes. And on the ship, or on the way to the next village, the sound of the waves and the air becomes a soundtrack of personal escape.

As in all travel, so in solo or Every day is white page. Can fill it with dives, with rides, with silences, with a spontaneous dance at a festival or with a monologue in front of the sea. And most importantly: there is no right way to do it. Only yours.

Solo holidays are not for everyone, nor does it mean that all holidays will be so. But for those who tried them – at least once – there was more than a vacation. Became a return experience to themselves. Not because something was missing, but because it was nice to be there alone and enough.

Solo, but not unprepared: what to look for

  • Choose the right destination: Better a place that is Solo -friendly traveler – safe and with the ability to release easily. It’s not time for “I’m going to get lost in the desert”.
  • Stay somewhere that inspires you security: A clean, quiet accommodation – ideally near the center or live area – makes the difference how you feel when you go back in the evening.
  • Had a backup plan: Offline maps, a list of useful phones, an offline playlist for when you don’t have a signal and – yes – a powerbank so you don’t run out of a battery on your mobile.
  • Don’t overdo it with ‘self -improvement’: You don’t have to read all the books, meditate every morning and look for nightly to find your deepest self. If all you have to do is eat watermelon watching the sun set, and that’s fine.
  • Speak – If you want: From the waiter to your neighbor on the ship. Many are more open when they see people traveling alone. It is not necessary to make friendships. You can just leave with a story above.
  • Don’t feel uncomfortable with ‘table for one’. Many nice thoughts have been written on napkins.
