Known for playing doctor Jo Wilson in “Gray’s Anatomy”, British actress Camilla Luddington, 41, revealed to be facing a challenge off the screens. In her podcast Call it What it is, which presents alongside former cast colleague Jessica Capshaw, she said she discovered Hashimoto thyroiditis, an autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid gland.
The discovery came after a routine blood test. According to Camilla, the diagnosis brought a mix of relief and understanding. “I felt I had the answer to something I knew it was happening,” he said. “And I am anxious about health, so a part of me thought, ‘Am I distorting reality?'” He recalled during the episode, released on Wednesday (6).
Among the symptoms, the actress highlighted the extreme tiredness, which got worse that she needs medication to deal with the routine. “I’m on the way to recovery. It will be a journey,” she said, who is preparing to return to season 22 of the medical series – the 14th she participates since her debut in the fixed cast.
Hashimoto thyroiditis is a chronic and autoimmune condition in which the immune system erroneously attacks the thyroid gland, responsible for regulating essential functions of the organism, such as metabolism, body temperature and energy.
Even dealing with the condition, Camilla is still involved with her professional projects. The new season of Grey’s Anatomy, scheduled to debut in the United States later this year, should show the character JO facing new challenges.
