Amid the One Last Time tour, Rod Stewart drew attention – and also generated debate – when using a video created by artificial intelligence as part of his honor to Ozzy Osbourne.
During the performance of the Forever Young track, the big screen projected Ozzy’s scene in the “sky”, holding a selfie stick, surrounded by deceased songs such as Freddie Mercury, Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse, Prince, Bob Marley and Michael Jackson.
According to the British Rolling Stone, the idea started more simply. In the first shows after Ozzy’s death on July 22, Stewart only showed a picture of the rocker on the big screens while dedicating the song. Over time, the tribute gained a new form and began to include the AI sequence (artificial intelligence), turning the moment into an imaginary meeting between the former Black Sabbath singer and other legendary figures who marked the history of music.
In one of the performances, in the city of Charlotte, North Carolina, Stewart even played with the public, according to Charlotte Observer: “Many of these people died because of drugs … But I’m still here!” Speech, combined with images, caused mixed reactions on social networks – some praised creativity, while others considered bad taste to portray deceased artists in this way.
Ozzy Osbourne died at age 76. On the day of death, Stewart made a point of publishing a personal tribute on social networks: “Bye, bye, Ozzy. Sleep well, my friend. I see you up there – more late instead of earlier,” he wrote on Instagram.
