Brazilian music lost on Friday (8) one of its most beloved names. Arlindo Cruz, samba icon and composer of great classics, died at age 66 after facing health complications arising from a stroke suffered in 2017. Since then, he was away from stage and lived under constant care.
The news thrilled friends and admirers. Among them, Zeca Pagodinho, also 66, who made a point of leaving a tribute. “My compadre, my partner, my friend Arlindo Cruz dies today. May God receive you with open arms. It suffered a lot, now you need to rest a little. Go with God, my compadre,” wrote the singer on social networks.
The friendship between Zeca and Arlindo surpassed the music. The two shared samba wheels, stories and, in 2023, to the samba catwalk – in the same year, were honored as plots of different schools in MarquĆŖs de SapucaĆ.
Arlindo Cruz built a solid career as a singer, composer and instrumentalist, signing successes that marked generations. The stroke, suffered on March 17, 2017, happened while he was showering and left him with motor and speech sequelae. Since then, his presence has been felt more in memories and taxes than on stage.
