The pioneering educational Animation Festival for children 6-12 years old is organized for the first time in Athens by the Athens Film Office with free participation
Through an innovative and original workshop, held for the first time in Athens by the Athens Film Office of the Municipality of Athens, children enjoy two hours of interactive creativity, and enter the magical world of animation in the most fun way!
In collaboration with Animation Hellas, the 1st Educational Festival of Animation E-KIDS is organized, for children of Primary School (6 to 12 years old) on 9 and 10, 16 and 17 April and on 14 and 15 May 2022, at the Seraphio of the Municipality of Athens , 11: 00-13: 00 and 15: 00-17: 00.
The workshops will be conducted by specialized teachers in the field of Greek Animation, and are under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture. Each workshop will have a different theme such as Greek Mythology, Europe, Our Friends the Animals, etc., where children will create a short film with the characters of the series “Pandora and Plato, The Magic Birds”.
The workshops refer each time to a different technique of animation and the goal is – apart from the educational part of the workshop – for each child to be able to leave the room with a complete result, ie a potentially designed film by the child himself.
The Mayor of Athens, Costas Bakogiannis, stated: “What we want to offer to young Athenians is the opportunity to grow up with a smile but also knowledge, to spark their imagination, to sharpen their creativity, to offer them many different performances. The educational festival of the Athens Film Office in Serafio is one of the many creative programs we provide as a Municipality, free of charge to children and their families. ”
The workshops start with the screening of an episode of The Magic Birds, and then follows an excerpt from Making of this, where through it the children will have a full understanding of its production, which they will be able to discuss and analyze with the directors. Also, taking into account the ecological messages that result from the scripts of The Magic Birds, questions that will come from them, around the protection of the planet and the ecosystem that surrounds it, will be solved at the same time.
The children will then try out animation techniques such as Cut Out – where children use cardboard to create the main characters of The Magic Birds and by joining the body parts, they can perform animation, Stop Motion Animation – that is, with a background or models that the children themselves have prepared will move themselves frame by frame, and finally, they will lend their voices to the characters of The Magic Birds (Voice Over)!
The participation of children is interactive and the knowledge they will gain through this artistic game, will be useful even in their professional orientation.
Children as well as adults are often identified with the characters of the story and are connected to some extent with the themes and events of the case. This identification enables them to express their feelings indirectly. At the same time it allows them to safely explore different management strategies of the challenges they face. Consequently, when children talk about the experiences of their heroes / characters, they are offered the opportunity to express their own concerns and work out methods to solve them.
