Ridley Scott left his mark on the previous film season with two separate biopics, House of Gucci and The Last Duel. Two historical but diametrically opposed films managed to attract audiences to the cinemas. However, after this double success, the director has already in the works his next historical film, which will concern the rise and fall of Napoleon.

As the director mentioned, no one else could have better embodied the historical figure of Napoleon on the big screen. The film follows Napoleon’s rise during the French Revolution, but pays close attention to his love story with Josephine. He managed to become a leading figure in France in a very short time, however, both he and his wife had an extramarital affair. When he learned of Josephine’s illicit affair, he wanted to conquer the world, “to give it to her.” But deep down he knew that nothing would keep Josephine close to him anymore and that was his biggest pain.

Josephine was originally cast by Jodie Comer, who also starred in The Last Duel with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. However, some problems arose and the shooting of the film coincided with some other obligations of the actress. Her position was immediately filled by Vanessa Kirby.
The film is now shooting in various parts of the United Kingdom and is expected to be released unexpectedly, in 2023. Until then, it is worth remembering that it will be mainly a love story, covered with impressive costumes and epic battles inspired by the events of the French Revolution.
