How to do Oscar-worthy makeup? See tips and trends

by

In addition to the controversy between celebrities and the expected awards for the best in cinema, the Oscar ceremony is also an inspiration for viewers when it comes to fashion and beauty. It is from this great night that people take inspiration from looks and also from makeup.

And from what was seen at the 2022 Oscars, which took place on the 27th, you can expect light makeup with well-built skins, without leaving out a touch of vibrant colors, which were already a trend last year, says Thiago Borsari, Too Faced Brazil makeup artist.

Borsari says that the balance for the most natural skin comes in the eyes, which brought some points of color and always with lots of mascara. For Kátia Araújo, from MAC Cosmetics Brasil, the colorful eyeliner was one of the main highlights of the night, with many artists combining colors with their looks.

“The green detail in Jada’s eyes [Pinkett] Smith brought a monochromatic elegance”, says the makeup artist, who also mentioned the eyeliner with a thin and colorful line by Maria Menounos and even HER, who used a purple eyeliner, matching the color of her dress.

In addition, the makeup artist also points out that trends from the 1990s returned in this ceremony, with neutral lips and points of light in the eyes. “Fashion icon Zendaya brought an air of that period by rescuing the silver eyeshadow”, she points out, who gives an important tip for makeup: “you will never regret paying attention to details”.

To show that it’s no secret to build your own makeup, Zendaya, 25, who starred in “Dune” and “Spider-Man: No Return Home,” both of which were nominated for awards on the night, did her own for the awards, as stated on their social media. “We decided to go with this soft makeup because we feel it’s very glamorous and Hollywood,” her hairstylist Antoinette Hill told People magazine.

The makeup artist explains that one of the important points to use colorful makeup in an elegant way is to think about what you want to convey with the colors on your face and clothes, whether it’s more sobriety, with darker tones; relaxation, with make-up in vibrant and lit tones; and even the feeling of contrast, with opposing colors like blue and orange.

TIPS FOR YOUR MAKEUP

Borsari and Araújo also leave some tips for doing a red carpet make-up. Too Faced’s makeup artist says it’s important to start makeup by prepping the skin, with a primer or moisturizer that brings radiance to the skin. The second step is to put foundation and concealer on the spots that need correction.

For the eyes, he says the choice can be vibrant and sparkling colors, “as well as Willow Smith, which reflects the trend that has become a hit on all social networks.” The MAC makeup artist adds that to bring out the shine it is important to lightly moisten the eyeshadow brushes with a moisturizing mist or thermal water.

“Apply in the inner corner of the eyes, in the center of the eyelids or even in the lower lash line”, said Araújo. The two professionals advise to finish the eye makeup with plenty of mascara, to bring attention to the look.

“If you want to create a balanced makeup, focus on one of the parts, drawing attention to the lips or eyes”, completes Borsari. “But if you’re like me, throw on a red lipstick and tag wherever you go.”

The last Oscar ceremony held in person, brought trends different from those seen now, in the first edition after the Covid-19 pandemic. In the year 2020, lipsticks in shades of open red, copper eyeshadow, glitter in the eyes and even silver eyeliners were on the rise. Looking forward to the next one.
