After being eliminated from the Eurovision competition due to its 2022 invasion of Ukraine, Russia is reviving this Saturday – for the first time from the collapse of the USSR – Intervision, a music competition presented by Moscow to the opponent of the “corrupt” Eurovision.
With singers from 23 countries, more than 4 billion spectators, glitter and worldwide coverage, Intervision has sparked interest. In fact, to promote the night, Russian public television even broadcast videos on a giant screen on Times Square, in the heart of New York.
On the stage of Live Arena, near Moscow, artists will appear on Saturday countries of the former Soviet Union (Belarus, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan), Countries of BRICS (Brazil, India, South Africa, Egypt, United Arab Emirates) but also others with good relations with Moscow like Serbia (candidate country for EU accession), the Cubaand the Qatar.
No EU Country participates in Intervision but USA is involvedwhich will be represented by Vassy of Greek descent (Vasiliki Karagiorgos), an Australian singer and songwriter.

In the intervision competition Russia will be represented by Shaman (real name Yaroslav Yuryevich Dronov), which is nationalist idol of the country.
Shaman, an emblematic personality of the patriotic concerts organized by the Russian government, will present a lyrical song entitled “Direct to the Heart”.
Intervision will be broadcast in all countries participating in the competition, Konstantin Ernst’s General Manager of the Russian state television network Pervy Kanal explained.

The countries involved in the competition are counting on a total of “4,334 billion inhabitants, that is, more than half the population of the planet,” commented during a press conference by Sergei Kirienko official of the Russian Presidency who is chairman of the Council of Supervisor.
The winner of the Intervision will be highlighted by an international panel of judges, unlike Eurovision in which the judges’ votes are added to those of viewers.
Music and “Traditional Values”
The organizers promise a “true celebration of music” but also “identity” The artists will sing in their native language “unlike Eurovision where most songs are interpreted in English,” the organizers underlined.
Russian President Vladimir Putin presents Russia as a supporter of “traditional values” over the moral “decline” of the West because of the tolerance of her LOATKI+ community.
This week, presenting intervision to reporters, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov commented ironically in 2014 at Eurovision of the Austrian Austrian Drag-Quinn Counterpart Burst, saying that he does not dispute “the right of Eurovision viewers to vote for a man with a beard dressed in women’s clothing”.
“And if Eurovision likes someone, we do not forbid anyone to watch it in our country,” he added.
