In recent years, the pictures of the Red Preveza have been touring the world and have flooded the internet after a visit to the area of some influencers, who have decided to “photograph” the bright red color in the area’s rocks, turning various brands for brands there. As a result, the area had a great deal of popularity and of course the lovers of travel and explorations looking for this place in the heart of the Preveza Prefecture and to highlight it as the “Next Big Thing” of Epirus! And not unjustly we would say …

The deep red color we see on the hills of the area is due to the manganese and iron oxides that encompasses the soil. The name of the Red Riding Hood, after all, indicates the red earth. According to surveys conducted in the area, the creation of this beautiful geological phenomenon began 250,000 years ago, giving us today a spooky landscape, many similar to the planet Mars. Especially in the early morning hours but also in the sunset, where warm colors caress the red slopes, the landscape is transformed into an impressive spectacle.

The wider area of Kokkinopoulos, with the village of Agios Georgios and Lake Ziros, were in danger this summer by a huge fire that burned there for days. Fortunately, however, thanks to the heroic intervention of the Fire Brigades and the assistance of the locals, the above parts were saved from the flames and we can still enjoy them today. They are true monuments of nature, well hidden in the rich green of the mountainous Preveza, as the county, in addition to the miles of coastline, also has a beautiful inland, full of historical monuments and endless natural beauty.

As we mentioned earlier, very close to Kokkinopilos is the picturesque village of Agios Georgios, with the imposing Roman aqueduct of Nicopolis and traditional water mills, the magic Lake Ziros, with its turquoise waters and the centuries -old plane trees, As is understood, it is an area – an outdoor museum, which captivates all visitors, and magnetizes the flash of photographers. If you are in the area, it is worth going out of the popular streets and discovering the authentic face of Preveza, which does not exist in travel guides.
