Michael B. Jordan is in talks to play Detective Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs in the movie reboot of the iconic series “Miami Vice,” which will be directed by Joseph Kozinski.

The actor is considered an ideal choice for Universal Pictures as he has a knack for combining intense action with authentic human stories, something he has proven with the ‘Creed’ franchise, which he also directed.

The screenplay by Eric Warren Singer and Dan Gilroy is expected to explore “the glitz and corruption of mid-’80s Miami,” drawing inspiration from the pilot episode and first season of the iconic TV series starring Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as undercover South Florida cops.

Dylan Clark and Kozinski will produce, with filming set to begin next year. “Miami Vice” will be shot in IMAX while its theatrical premiere is scheduled for August 6, 2027.

According to Variety, Jordan is currently filming the ambitious film “The Thomas Crown Affair” for Amazon MGM Studios in the triple capacity of star, director and producer through his company, Outlier Society.
