The trial of the lawsuit that actor Johnny Depp, 58, is bringing against his ex-wife, actress Amber Heard, 35, for defamation, takes place from this Monday (11) in Virginia, USA, and should last about six weeks. In addition, all procedures will be televised.
The suit centers on a lawsuit the actor brought against Heard, who wrote an op-ed for the Washington Post in 2018, saying she had become a “public figure representing domestic abuse”. Depp began the trial in March 2019, and claimed that Heard’s accusations were an “elaborate hoax” to enhance his public persona.
This Sunday, the actress shared a text on her Instagram profile saying that she will step away from social networks for the next few weeks, due to the lawsuit, and thanking her fans for the support she has received so far. “I will be offline for the next several weeks,” the artist began.
“I will be in Virginia, where I will face my ex-husband Johnny Depp in court. Johnny is suing me over an editorial I wrote in the Washington Post in which I recounted my experience with domestic violence and abuse.”
“I never mentioned it, and I wrote about the price women pay in denouncing men in power,” she continued in the post. “I’m still paying the price, but I hope that when this case is over, I can move on, and so can Johnny,” she wrote in the text.
Heard also said that she has always felt love for the actor, and that it brings her a lot of pain for “having to relive the details of our life together in front of the world”. The actress ends the text by thanking her for the support she has received over the years, and says that she will support herself even more in this period.
The actor’s career in Hollywood was shaken after the actress accused him of domestic violence. Depp then filed a lawsuit suing her for defamation. In British justice, Depp lost a lawsuit against the tabloid The Sun for calling him a “wife beater”.
According to The New York Times, the trial at the Fairfax County Circuit Court is expected to begin with jury selection, and both parties are expected to testify. Additionally, Heard’s list of possible witnesses includes the likes of Elon Musk and James Franco.
