Travis Scott: Tragedy on show generates more than BRL 4 billion in lawsuits

by

The tragedy with 10 dead at the concert by rapper Travis Scott, 30, which took place at a concert on the Astroworld stage on November 5, has already racked up more than 125 lawsuits involving the rapper and singer Drake, 35, who made a cameo appearance at the event. .

According to the TMZ website, the more than 125 fans, including the family of one of the dead, add up to processes that cost over US$ 750 million, which is equivalent to R$ 4.1 billion at the current price. The presentation took place in Houston, Texas, USA, and generated a riot that left 10 dead, aged between 9 and 27 years old.

A lawsuit filed by attorney Tony Buzbee blames Scott and the show organizers for negligence in not properly planning the show, training security personnel, and failing to hold the show in a secure location.

The family that sues the rapper, Drake and the companies, is that of Axel Acosta, who was 21 years old and was one of the victims of the tragedy. In the process, the family points out that he was “crushed by an incited, undisciplined, and uncontrolled mob so hard that he could no longer breathe.”

According to lawyers, the R$ 4.1 billion would be earmarked for the physical and mental injuries of the survivors, as well as referring to those who lost their lives on the show. “No amount of money will ever bring back these loved ones, it will not be able to restore human lives. It will repair damage, in addition to helping to overcome the trauma suffered by the applicants,” they said.

In addition, the fact that Scott and Live Nation allegedly offered refunds to attendees at the show is also in the lawsuits. The move was seen as “a transparent and grotesque effort by the defendants to limit their after-the-fact responsibilities to the families of the dead or injured.”

UNDERSTAND THE CASE

The tragedy happened during a concert by rapper Travis Scott on the stage of Astroworld, in Houston, Texas (USA), on November 5th. In all, 10 people died and several were hospitalized in the riot during the performance.

Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner spoke about the tragedy at their brother-in-law’s concert. “Absolutely heartbroken for the lives that were lost and for anyone who was injured in Astroworld. Like all of you, our family is in shock from the tragedy. We are praying for all the victims,” Kim said.

Kendall said he is still speechless on the news. “I am really sorry for the families who have lost loved ones and my prayers go out to everyone involved. I am sending out all my love to all who have been affected and wishing them strength during this incredibly devastating and sensitive time,” he commented.

According to TMZ, Scott has not left his home since the tragedy. His lawyer Ed McPherson spoke of how devastated he was because it happened in his hometown and he locked himself in his house. “The fact that it happened to Houston, who he loves, and that there are so many people around, is particularly devastating.”

Travis has canceled his 14-15 Vegas show, and a petition is growing online to interrupt his main event at Coachella next spring. The lawyer says that introducing himself is the last thing on Travis’s mind at the moment and supporting the victims’ families.

Sources linked to the rapper told TMZ that he was never informed at the festival about the dead and injured people. According to sources, Travis did not know the gravity of the situation when he arrived at the after-show party and this remains consistent with the fact that no one, including the police, has publicly confirmed the seriousness of the events that took place there.

Drake, who threw the party and performed with Travis as a surprise guest on the show, also had no idea there were people dying in the crowd. According to TMZ, there were several people begging camera operators and others to stop the show.

Although Travis was at least 50 meters from the camera operator, sources said he hadn’t heard calls to end the show because fans were dying. But when he learned of the tragedy he immediately left the party.

According to law enforcement authorities, the episode was triggered after fans started pushing each other towards the stage. After about 30 minutes, confusion escalated and what Houston Police Chief Executive Larry Satterwhite called a “mass incident” ensued.

“All of a sudden, we had a bunch of people on the floor going through some kind of medical episode,” he said. “It happened all at once, in a matter of minutes.”

The fire department took 25 people to hospitals in the region, 11 of which had cardiac arrest. Local police chief Troy Finner said one of the lines that will be investigated is that one person in the audience could be drugging others with a syringe.

According to him, a security guard felt a sting in the neck while trying to contain a disturbance and fell unconscious. Doctors, who revived him using an opioid antagonist drug, noticed a mark, similar to what a syringe would leave, on the agent’s neck.

Others in the crowd would also have passed out unconsciously during the performance.

After the tragedy, Travis said he would pay the funeral costs for the victims who died in his show. He will also team up with a company to provide mental health services to those in need.
