Meghan Markle visits Queen Elizabeth II for the first time in two years

by

A spokesperson for Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle confirmed to People magazine that the couple stayed at Windsor Castle and visited Queen Elizabeth II during a brief visit to the UK this week. The two are in Europe to participate in the Invictus Games, which take place in the Netherlands.

It is the first time in two years that they have returned to Harry’s home country together, as the couple moved to the United States and currently live in California. The last time Meghan had been in person with the monarch was in March 2020, before the couple officially abandoned their status as members of the royal family.

Harry had already returned to the UK, but without his wife. He attended the funeral of his grandfather, Prince Philip, in April 2021. In July of the same year, he attended the unveiling of a statue in honor of his mother, Princess Diana.

At the time, Meghan had just given birth to baby Lilibet Diana, now 10 months old. It was not reported whether the girl got to know her great-grandmother during the meeting.

The Invictus Games were founded by Harry to honor wounded servicemen and veterans. It was in the 2017 edition that he and Meghan appeared together for the first time as a couple. The following year, they also attended the event together after announcing her first pregnancy.

The current edition, which is taking place in the city of The Hague, in the Netherlands, should have taken place in 2020. It was postponed because of the Covid pandemic.
