Taylor Swift is honored by scientists in the name of centipede

by

Taylor Swift has already won gifts and unusual statements from fans, but now she has been honored to name a species of centipede. In a study published in the scientific journal ZooKeys, Derek Hennen, Jackson Means and Paul Marek named the twisted-clawed millipede Nannaria swiftae.

“Her music helped me get through the highs and lows of graduation, so naming a new species after her is my way of saying thank you,” Derek Hennen wrote. Besides the swiftaeanother 16 species were discovered in the Appalachian mountain range of the United States.

The researchers carried out a survey of many years, traveled to 17 states located in the eastern US to find species, sequence their DNA and thus be able to describe them scientifically. More than 1,800 species were collected. The newly documented ones ranged in size from 18 to 38 mm in length.

Swift also recently received another academic honor. New York University announced in March that it would award the singer an honorary doctorate of fine arts on May 18. On the occasion, she will also deliver a commencement address at Yankee Stadium.

The official title that will be awarded is Doctor of Fine Arts, honoris causa. This position is granted to people who stand out in their area of expertise, but who have not completed their doctoral studies in the traditional way. In addition to Swift, artists such as JK Rowling, Oprah Winfrey, Meryl Streep and Yoko Ono have already received the title.
