Thales Bretas remembers Paulo Gustavo a year after his death: ‘It was always a party’

Widower of comedian Paulo Gustavo (1978 – 2021), dermatologist Thales Bretas, 34, went to breakfast with Ana Maria Braga, 73, on the Mais Você (Globo) program. The actor’s death completes one year this Wednesday (4).

Paulo Gustavo passed away after a battle against Covid-19. The doctor says they didn’t know how they contracted the virus, but that they found out by taking a test to find a couple of friends. “There were several moments that we thought it was getting better”, recalled Bretas about the hospitalization.

“They were the most terrible days of my life. He was very afraid and very lucid at the same time. He even asked me: ‘Am I going to die? Or do you think I can leave?”, he said. The doctor also says that, despite trying to explain to his children – Romeo and Gael – the actor’s death, they still don’t understand.

Throughout the program, Ana Maria and Bretas recalled special moments of the actor and the couple’s life, such as the Honeymoon, trips that the two took together and even the moment when the doctor threw the actor’s ashes in New York. “[Com ele] it was always a party,” he said.

“I’ve been finding strength from the energy that everyone sends me, from work and from children. I’m just grateful for everything we’ve lived. It will forever be this very special memory in my life and I think for everyone who had the opportunity to know”, added the doctor.
