Toby Maguire to play Charlie Chaplin in “Babylon”

by

Toby Maguire is set to play Charlie Chaplin in Damien Sazel’s long-awaited film “Babylon”.

The news comes a year after news broke that Toby Maguire had been auditioned and confirmed during CinemaCon, with attendees at the event in Las Vegas watching footage that has not been shown again.

Variety reports that “Babylon” is set in the 1920s, focuses on Hollywood adaptation to talking cinema, and resembles a combination of “The Great Gatsby” by Baz Luhrmann and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” by Quentin Tarantino. thanks to “loud music, dazzling costumes and the next level of makeup”.

Along with Maguire on the cast are Brad Pitt, who plays actor, screenwriter and director John Gilbert, and Margo Robbie, who plays actress Clara Bowe.

In the trailer that was shown, Clara Bowe is not particularly worried about her position in showbiz. “You do not become a star,” he says. “Either you are … or you are not,” he adds.

In a humorous scene, as Brad Pitt’s character is shooting a Gladiator movie, he avoids a spear that almost nails him. “Sir, I think your awning is on the line of fire,” warns someone from the support department. Gilbert replies: “We will delete it.”
