Ways to use ASMR to relax and reduce stress

by

Many times listening to some sounds, we feel a shiver, a pleasure, a relaxation. It is like experiencing an extracorporeal experience and it happens to almost everyone.

This is exactly what ASMRor otherwise in Greek Autonomous Sensor Meridian Response.

It is the feeling of euphoria and tingling together, which we feel in the back of the head and in our spine, when we hear specific sounds. These sounds – triggers, stimulate our brain and activate a sharpening of the senses. In other words, it is a reaction of our brain to some sounds, which, however, is very pleasant and relaxing.

A typical example of ASMR is Bob Ross shows. Most of us watched them, not because we wanted to be painters, but because we were relaxed by his voice and the sound of the brush on the canvas. The same goes for Biilie Eilish.

Research has shown that these sounds cause relaxation, relieve stress and help a person sleep more easily, even if he suffers from insomnia.

ASMR began to become quite well known to the general public, through the internet and mainly through You Tube. However, the term has been around since 2010, when some people set up a Facebook group to discuss this very phenomenon.

At the same time, neuroscientists are acknowledging the existence of ASMR, but have not yet determined exactly how it affects humans and why some are affected and some are not.

There are now countless videos and ASMRtists dealing with it. There are videos for example, with people brushing their hair, eating, whispering, rubbing soap and everything else you can and can not imagine.

Also, there are people who deal exclusively with it, even making a living with these videos, which in recent years have become a surprise in Greece. For example, Salted Caramel, the most famous Greek ASMRtist, with over 100,000 subscribers to its channel, which produces sounds by eating sweets and chocolates.

So if you are suffering from insomnia or you have stress and anxiety and you want to unwind and decompress in an original way, below we show you the way with five simple steps:

1. Find the right ASMR video for you.

There are thousands of ASMR videos on the internet. All you have to do is take a look at them and see what really relaxes you. Think in your regularity, what sounds are those that make you feel this sweet shiver.

2. Find the right time.

Really not all hours are the same for relaxation and calm. So find the one that is most suitable for you. That is, what is this moment in the day when you can spend some time to relax.

Also, start with smaller videos or 10 to 15 minute podcasts. The night you lie down you can put longer. If you’re suffering from insomnia, there are ASMRtists who only deal with it. They literally put you to bed and when you wake up they are there and greeting you, like the typical Whisper Red nine-hour video, or the world-famous Emma Smith, which is used in a sleep clinic.

3. Find the space.

Also very important is the space in which you will enjoy this new brain spa. Find a place where you feel good, comfortable and relaxed. It could be your sofa or your bedroom, or it could be the hammock on your terrace.

Put on the most comfortable clothes, which you have and your best mood and start.

4. Find the right breath.

As in yoga, so in ASMR you need to find the right posture and the right breath.

Lie on your back on the floor and take five long breaths, from your stomach, slowly letting the air out. At the same time, observe how sound affects different parts of your body. Focus on those areas that are tight, relax your jaw, and then follow the rhythm of your breathing.

5. Put small ASMR moments in your day.

You can easily decompress during the day with mini moments of relaxation. Have an ASMR play before or after a meeting, or after a stressful situation. You do not need to listen to the end. A few minutes arrive, just enough to relax you.
