“Derby House” inspired by Mayan architecture for sale

Inspired by Mayan architecture, the “Derby House” designed by the eldest son of the famous Frank Lloyd Wright is for sale in Los Angeles. It was built in 1926 for the businessman James Derby and half a century later, it was included in the National Register of Historic Places.

Faced with an intricate geometric pattern and prefabricated concrete blocks, the building rises on the Glendale Hills as an iconic example of Central American architectural form.

The “Derby House” sells for about $ 3.3 million. It emerges through the oaks and eucalyptus trees that cover the sloping slope and praises the environment with a yucca pattern on its facade. The stone curtains of the facade are repeated in the fireplace, in the balcony doors, cupboards and in the garage door.

The house has five bedrooms and three bathrooms, all organized in more than 975 square meters, on two levels. The interiors are shaped by ceilings and windows in a cathedral style and by shadows with intricate patterns as the sunlight enters from the stone facade. In the hexagonal dining room, a fireplace from the floor to the ceiling and a window in a ledge. In the two-story living room, a fireplace behind a decorative 2.4 meter high cast iron door and a loft-style bookcase. The current owner is Jeffrey Sanfilippo, CEO of Illinois-based John B. Sanfilippo & Son, who bought Derby House for $ 2.3 million in 2016.
