Fred Savage, 45, was fired as director of the new version of the series “The Wonder Years”, a hit in the 1980s and 1990s, starring the actor himself in the role of Kevin Arnold. The information is from the Deadline website.
According to the publication, Savage was removed from the Disney production after complaints for inappropriate behavior. In a statement, a spokesperson for the producer confirmed the dismissal.
“We were recently made aware of allegations of misconduct by Fred Savage and, as is policy, an investigation was launched. Upon completion, the decision was made to terminate his contract as executive producer and director of ‘The Wonder Years,'” said the spokesperson.
In 2018, Alley Mills, who played the mother of Savage’s character in the original series as Norma Arnold, spoke about the show’s controversial cancellation involving another scandal.
Alley said the production’s cancellation in the 1990s was a result of a “completely ridiculous” sexual harassment lawsuit against Savage and Jason Hervey (who played his brother on the show), then aged 16 and 20 respectively.
The accusation came from a costume designer, and, according to Alley, the situation was resolved out of court.
REMAKE
In this new version, the series “Wonderful Years” will have a black family as the protagonist. Like the original version, the reboot will also take place in the 1960s, in the United States.
“The Wonder Years” aired between 1988 and 1993, in six seasons, and showed a transition from childhood to adolescence experienced by the three central characters. In Brazil, the program was broadcast by TV Cultura and also won many viewers. The script for the new production will be written by comedian Saladin K. Patterson, responsible for “The Big Bang Theory” and “Frasier”.
The “Wonderful Years” actors were reunited in February 2019. “Does this group look familiar to you?” read the caption of a photo posted at the time by Danica McKellar, 45, better known as Winnie Cooper.
Flanked by Fred Savage and Josh Saviano, 44, the actress stated that they are “like family”. “After all, we really did grow up together, didn’t we?” McKellar wrote.
