National Library: Event dedicated to Kosmas Politis

by

THE National Library of Greece continues the cycle of events “Reason 10” curated by President of the Board of Trustees of the National Library of Greece, Mr. Stavros Zoupoulakis. The second event has title “Kosmas Politis (1888-1974)” and will take place on Wednesday 18 May 2022, 19:00 to 21:00, at the Book Tower of the National Library of Greece, at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center. Admission is free for the public σειρά in order of priority upon arrival.

We have many reasons to return to reading Kosmas Politis, one of the leading novelists of our language in the twentieth century. Eroica, about the first teenage experiences of love and death, is probably his most loved novel and will always be read, as we all have the urge to go back to adolescence.

This year, however, which marks the 100th anniversary of the Asia Minor Catastrophe, we have an additional reason to visit Politis, who lived his own childhood and adolescence in Smyrna, where his family settled in 1890, and left in 1922. Stu Hadjifrangos’s novel, named after a popular district of Smyrna, published on the 40th anniversary of the Catastrophe (1962-1963), captures the lives of everyday people on the incomprehensible horizon of history.
