Mônica Bergamo: Bolsonaro government starts talks with laboratories to buy medicines against Covid-19

The Ministry of Health has already started talks with Pfizer and AstraZeneca for the purchase of drugs against Covid-19 — a step following the vaccination campaign, which should end its first phase this year, but become a periodic one in the country, with booster doses.

REVENUE

One of the drugs that are on the portfolio’s horizon is Pfizer’s experimental antiviral pill, which, combined with another drug, the antiviral ritonavir, reduced the risk of hospitalization and death from Covid by 89% in high-risk patients.

The pill is still being tested and could only be acquired by Brazil after being approved by Anvisa.

Another alternative studied is the acquisition of the antibody cocktail tested by the Anglo-Swedish laboratory AstraZeneca. Tested on patients considered to be at high risk of developing the severe form of the disease, it reduced severe cases, or death, in 67% of cases.

RECIPE 4

There is also a positive expectation in relation to the antiviral molnupiravir, which is also being tested in Brazil, by Fiocruz. The drug is from the MSD laboratory (Merck, USA).
