EMA: Considers testing the Imvanex vaccine against monkeypox

Precautions against sudden outbreak of monkey pox in Europeis being developed by the European Union Medicines Authority

EMA, according to Reuters, is in talks with the vaccine company Bavarian Nordic (BAVA.CO) about the possibility the smallpox Imvanex vaccine approvedto be tested for smallpox in monkeys

“The EMA emergency team is in talks with the marketing authorization holder to prepare for the submission of data that could support the extension of the monkeypox prevention label,” the EMA’s chief vaccine strategist told a news conference. Marco Cavaleri.

In the United States, where the vaccine is called Jynneos, it has already been approved for both smallpox and avian pox.

Cavaleri added that Tembexa, also known as brincidofovir and developed by Chimerix (CMRX.O), could be a treatment option for monkeypox infections.

Tembexa has US approval for smallpox treatment, but is not yet approved in the European Union.
