The Ministry of Health will approve the application of the fourth dose of the vaccine against Covid-19 – or the second booster dose – for people over 50 and health professionals.
Minister Marcelo Queiroga said that the ministry will approve the application of the fourth dose for people over 50 years old.
Members of the folder informed that the technical note will also cover health workers, a group that includes health professionals — such as doctors and nurses, among others — and people who work in the administrative area.
The measure will come into force with the publication of the technical note, which should happen until next week.
So far, the fourth dose is released for people over 60 and immunosuppressed.
“The second booster dose is already authorized for [pessoas] over 60 years by the Ministry of Health, and we are going to expand to over 50 years”, said Minister Marcelo Queiroga this Thursday (2) at the end of an event at the portfolio.
The minister played down the increase in Covid-19 cases and the importance of masks. This Wednesday (1), the moving average of new cases reached 31 thousand, which represents an increase of 96% compared to the moving average of two weeks ago.
“There is, of course, an increase in cases because there has been greater flexibility. This is not just in Brazil. This is all over the world. We are not going to end the virus. .”
“In relation to masks, it is everyone’s right to use a mask. We do not prevent people from wearing a mask. Now, imposing the use of masks, in addition to not working, is very difficult to monitor”, he added.
The fourth dose began to be applied to the elderly this year. Since December 2021, the ministry has recommended it for immunocompromised people who are 18 years of age or older.
The expansion to the 12-year-old group took place in February this year.
It is in this public, for example, those who are undergoing chemotherapy against cancer, have had some type of organ or stem cell transplant, live with HIV/AIDS or undergo hemodialysis.
Some states have already started the application of the fourth dose even before the recommendation of the paste. States and municipalities are not obliged to follow the recommendations of the federal government and can draw up their own rules to combat the pandemic, as the STF (Supreme Federal Court) reinforced in a 2020 decision.
