Vatopoulos: Lockdown is not ruled out – The “red” line – Mid-December the peak of the 4th wave

by

The possibility of a lockdown is not ruled out, as if there is an increase in cases, other measures may be needed, he stressed. the professor of microbiology, Alkiviadis Vatopoulos, speaking in his noon news bulletin and Eva Antonopoulou.

As he mentioned, in order to avoid the lockdown, we must discipline the measures that have already been taken, while the “red” line to proceed with something like this explained that it has to do with the situation in the health system, for example if there are no ICUs to treat people.

He described the coming Christmas as difficult and pointed out that everything depends on our behavior as an organized society. As he said, it must be understood that we have a disease that is transmitted by droplets and respiration, therefore each of us and society as a whole must be protected by the application of the three weapons we have: vaccination, masks and personal protection measures, the tests that need to be done to identify cases and carriers.

Mr. Vatopoulos added that as long as there is a number of immune systems that are vulnerable to the virus and as long as we are unvaccinated, the cases increase.

Asked about the peak of the wave, he explained that a wave lasts two – three months and that what we are experiencing now has started about a month ago, which he estimates will be over by mid-December. However, he noted that the virus always surprises us by changing its behavior.

Regarding the estimates of his colleagues that the cases can reach 11,000 at the peak of the pandemic, he commented that he avoids making estimates and that he believes that it also depends on the behavior of everyone.

Regarding how the patient will be selected for the treatment of monoclonal antibodies, he mentioned that there are already protocols based on which this administration will be made. However, Mr. Vatopoulos clarified that there is no comparison of this treatment with the vaccine and that these drugs are not to prevent the pandemic but for the sick while the message is not to have cases. “Prevention is the issue,” he said.
