Vaccination against Covid in pharmacies starts with low demand

by

On the first day of vaccination against Covid in pharmacies, the movement was quiet in the two units of Drogaria São Paulo that started to apply the doses this Saturday (4), in São Paulo. Until 15:20, only four people received the immunization at the pharmacy located on Avenida Paulista.

According to the unit’s administration, three other people had scheduled to receive the vaccine throughout the day. Daiana Zorzo, pharmaceutical manager of the unit, said that the greatest demand for the immunizer has been from customers under 60 years old in search of the fourth dose.

The drugstore, however, is not serving this public, as it claims to follow “strictly the criteria adopted by Anvisa”.

As in the public network, only those over 60 years of age can receive the fourth dose, provided that the previous application took place four months or more.

This Saturday (4), however, the Ministry of Health released the fourth dose of the Covid-19 vaccine for people aged 50 and over and health workers of all ages. The state of São Paulo reported that the application for this new portion of the population starts on Monday (6).

Questioned, Drogaria São Paulo said that it will evaluate the technical note to sell the vaccine to this group as well. At the moment, in addition to the fourth dose for people over 60, the network applies the immunizer to people aged between 18 and 59 years interested in the second or third dose.

This was the case of advertiser Marcos Zapater, 40, who went to the pharmacy to apply the third dose of the immunizer. Even with the possibility of getting vaccinated for free at health centers, he said he preferred to pay R$229 for “practicality and agility”.

Zapater stated that he had difficulties finding the third dose of the immunizer on the public network. “On the Friday after the holiday in Tiradentes, I went to three gas stations and they were closed. I preferred to pay and resolve,” he said. Another reason, according to him, is the increase in cases of Covid in family and close friends.

The lawyer Marcela Barretta, 41, said she chose to pay for the third dose because she was feeling unprotected. She said she got the Janssen vaccine (single dose) in July last year, and the Pfizer vaccine in December. “It’s been six months, and as it will take time for me to be able to take another dose at the posts, I already preferred to pay and get immunized.”

The vaccine applied by pharmacies is from Astrazeneca, imported. In addition to the unit on Avenida Paulista, the immunizing agent is sold at Drogaria São Paulo on Avenida Lavandisca, 116, in Moema, in the south zone. You need to make an appointment. As in health posts, to be immunized against Covid in pharmacies you need to bring proof of vaccination and identity.

Since last Monday (30), the vaccine against Covid-19 began to arrive in the private network. According to ABCvac, the price of the dose should cost up to R$ 350. Some private clinics are already vaccinating against Covid or setting up groups, because each bottle has ten doses, which need to be applied within 48 hours after opening.

According to ABCVac, the vaccine from the private network is the same as that applied to the public, having been imported directly from the manufacturer — only the packaging is different.
