The government of the state of São Paulo decided to expand from this Wednesday (22) the flu vaccination for all people over 6 months of age. Since the start of the vaccination campaign in March, less than half of the target audience has received the immunization.
The State Department of Health will use remaining doses to expand the public, as the Ministry of Health ends the national campaign of priority groups this Friday (24). Thus, the states are free to use the remaining stocks as they wish.
According to the state ministry, the campaign reached 45.1% of the target audience, with 7.9 million doses applied.
Among people over 60, says the secretary, immunization reached 61.7%. Among children, this rate reached only 42%. Vaccination coverage among pregnant women is the lowest among those who could have taken the flu vaccine, with only 31.5%.
The indigenous audience was the only one that reached 100% coverage.
The vaccine applied is the trivalent, 100% produced by the Butantan Institute, composed of the H1N1, strain B and H3N2 viruses, of the Darwin subtype, which caused the outbreaks located at the end of last year.
In winter, reinforces the state secretary, the circulation of the virus becomes greater and, with this, the probability of people developing complications of the disease, such as pneumonia, hospitalization and death. This year, 1,646 people were hospitalized due to Influenza.
For those who have been diagnosed with Covid-19, the recommendation is that the flu vaccine be applied soon after the end of the isolation period.
For children aged 5 to 11 years, a 15-day interval is required between flu and coronavirus vaccines.
In December of last year, because of a flu epidemic caused by the Darwin variant of the H3N2 influenza virus, Butantan sent 1 million doses of vaccines against the previous flu strain to health units in the city of São Paulo.
The prefecture awaits the arrival of vaccines to apply the new booster for people aged 40 and over, which should happen from next week.
From this Wednesday, people aged 18 or over who started the vaccination schedule against Covid with Janssen immunization agent will be able to take the second booster dose (third application) provided they have received the first booster (second injection) at least four months ago.
For the population over 40 years old, who started the vaccination schedule with Janssen, the third booster dose (fourth application) will also be available, provided that the interval in relation to the previous dose is at least four months.
