Improving the Mental Health services provided “Agios Savvas” Cancer Oncology Hospitalwas the subject of a meeting held at the hospital, during the visit of the Deputy Minister of Health Zoe Tailorwith the participation of the administration and executives of the institution.
“Agios Savvas” hospital, in addition to medical services, also provides psychosocial support with 1 psychiatrist, 4 psychologists, and 3 social workers, who serve patients, outpatients who treat and their relatives, as well as medical and nursing staff .
The hospital treats about 600 cases a year and support is provided in the stages of diagnosis, chemotherapy, and the final stage, which is the most difficult for families.
“Psychosocial support is our priority. “Our goal is to improve the provided Mental Health services of the hospital, strengthening the staff with recruitments”, said the Deputy Minister of Health Z. Rapti. He noted that through the recruitments will be given the opportunity to provide home psychosocial support, along with home medical care, which patients are already receiving.
For this reason, he added, a Department of Psychologists will be included in the Organization of the hospital, promoted by the Ministry of Health.
