Corona Virus- Sewage: 91% more viral load in Attica

By 9% the viral load in Attica wastewater increased. In the week of June 27 to July 3, 2022, an increase in the average weekly viral load of SARS- was observed in nine of the eleven areas tested.

In the +91% increased viral load in its municipal wastewater Attica last week while at +68 is calculated accordingly, according to the EODY for the Thessaloniki.

More specifically, during the week of June 27 to July 3, 2022, increasing trends were observed, relative to the week of June 20 to 26, 2022, in the average weekly viral load of SARS-CoV-2 in municipal wastewater in nine of the eleven (9/11) areas checked by the National Wastewater Epidemiology Network (EDEL) of EODY stabilization in one of the eleven (1/11) areas and marginal reduction in one of the eleven (1/11) areas of the EDEL. There were clear upward trends in the average weekly viral load of municipal wastewater in Heraklion (+42%), Volos (+54%), Corfu (+62%), Thessaloniki (+68%), Ioannina (+79 %), in Larissa (+91%), Attiki (+91%), Xanthi (+99%) and Alexandroupoli (+148%). The viral load remained stable in Chania (-5%), while a marginal decrease was observed in Patras (-26%).

Region of Attica: In the last week, 27/06-03/07/2022, the average weekly viral load in the urban wastewater of the Attica Region showed an increasing trend, with a statistically significant change (+91%) of the weekly average compared to the previous week, 20 -26/06/2022. In the last weeks, the viral load showed a significant increase, which peaked in the last week mainly due to the BA.4 and BA.5 variants.

Thessaloniki: In the last week, 27/06-03/07/2022, the weekly average value of the viral load of municipal wastewater in Thessaloniki showed a significant increase (+68%) compared to the previous week, 20-26/06/2022.

The viral load in the city of Thessaloniki increased by a total of 393% in the last four weeks. Based on the data of the last 10 days, the viral load growth rate of BA.4 and BA.5 strains in municipal wastewater in the city of Thessaloniki decreased. In particular, their viral load now doubles per
10 days.

Larisa: In the last week, 27/06-03/07/2022, an increase (+91%) was observed in the viral load levels of municipal sewage in Larissa compared to the week 20 -26/06/2022.

Marble: In the last week, 27/06-03/07/2022, an increase (+54%) was observed in the viral load levels of municipal sewage in Volos, compared to the week 20-26/06/2022.

Blonde: In the last week, 27/06-03/07/2022, an increase (+99%) was observed in the viral load levels of municipal sewage in Xanthi compared to the week 20-26/06/2022.

Alexandroupolis: In the last week, 27/06-03/07/2022, a significant increase (+148%) was observed in the viral load levels of municipal sewage in Alexandroupoli compared to the week 20-26/06/2022.

Patras: In the last week, 27/06-03/07/2022, in Patras, the weekly average value of the viral load of urban sewage showed a marginal decrease (-26%) compared to the previous week, 20-26/06/2022. The weekly average value of the viral load is moving at relatively high levels.

Heraklion: In the last week, 27/06-03/07/2022, the average weekly viral load in the municipal wastewater of the city of Heraklion showed an increase (+42%) compared to the previous week, 20-26/06/2022.

Chania: In the last week, 27/06-03/07/2022, no significant change (-5%) was observed in the average weekly viral load in the municipal wastewater of the city of Chania, which remained essentially stable compared to the previous week, 20- 26/06/2022.

Janina: In the last week, 27/06-03/07/2022, in Ioannina, the weekly average value of the viral load of urban sewage showed an increase (+79%) compared to the week 20-26/06/2022.

Corfu: In the last week, 27/06-03/07/2022, in Corfu, the weekly average value of the viral load of municipal sewage showed an increase (+62%) compared to the week 20-26/06/2022.
