Starting this Tuesday (30), in the city of São Paulo, Pfizer’s vaccine against Covid will be used as a booster for those who were initially vaccinated with Janssen’s immunizing agent, in a single dose in the primary regimen.
The decision was taken at a meeting this Monday afternoon (29), with the participation of the municipal health secretary, Edson Aparecido, the technical team of the Municipal Health Department, Health Surveillance and hospital directors.
One of the reasons that led to the release of the booster dose for this public was the discovery, in Africa, of the omicron variant, which is highly transmissible, as warned by the G7 health ministers on Monday.
Thus, the expectation is that the more than 300 thousand people who received the single dose of Janssen in São Paulo will be immunized with the reinforcement of Pfizer quickly. This decision to authorize the application of Pfizer follows a document from the state government, which had already allowed this exchange of vaccines in case of lack of Janssen.
Health representatives in the municipality also announced that it will not be necessary to present proof of residence to be vaccinated at one of the municipal health posts, which was previously required to prevent residents from other municipalities from coming to the posts in the city of São Paulo.
The secretariat also determined that possible cases of the omicron variant will have as a reference the Municipal Hospital Tide Setúbal, in São Miguel Paulista, in addition to the General Hospital Guaianases, of the state government.
Currently, there is only one suspicion of contamination by the new variant: a Brazilian who passed through South Africa and tested positive for Covid-19 after landing at Guarulhos airport. He is in isolation at home, according to the city of Greater São Paulo, where he resides.
The secretariat also said on Monday that, in addition to the collection of samples, sent weekly for analysis, genomic sequencing and monitoring of cases, under the responsibility of the Butantan Institutes, of Tropical Medicine at USP, and Adolfo Lutz, collections will be carried out from suspected (symptomatic) patients. ) from Africa and other countries informed by the Ministry of Health.
