Deputy Health Minister Mina Gaga visited the AHEPA hospital

The need to try to stop the transmission of the coronavirus so as not to put pressure on the doctors who are fighting on the front line, pointed out the Deputy Minister of Health, Mina Gaga, who visited the AHEPA on-duty hospital in Thessaloniki.

He stressed that he had the opportunity to talk to doctors about the problems they face, to visit parts of the hospital and the new Intensive Care Unit, which, as he said, has all the facilities.

He underlined that the period is difficult for the health system, as especially in Thessaloniki we have a lot of cases every day and these translate into hospitalizations.

Ms. Gaga noted that the health system endures because doctors “are here and endure” and try. As he said, all the rest of us should try to stop the transmission of the disease so that the doctors are not pressured.

The associate professor of Pathology-Infectious Diseases of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Symeon Metallidis, stressed that AHEPA and every hospital in Thessaloniki that is on duty, face difficult on-call time. “The city has a lot of cases … the cases are disproportionately many in relation to the Basin, so we are under more pressure as a system.”

He added that the help of the private sector is great, which has provided ICU beds for non-covid incidents. “We have occupied almost half of the city’s ICU beds in the private sector and this is a significant help,” he said.

As for the doctors hired by the private sector, he stressed that it is a solution of necessity, however they will also put a small stone.

The director of the Nursing Service of AHEPA, Christina Dimoni, stressed that the nursing staff for 19 months, despite the great fatigue, continues to support the health system. “We unreservedly recommend vaccination to all to end this pandemic,” he added.
